The Pentathlon of Commercial Real Estate

Share it

It’s the greatest summer competition in the world! No I am not talking about America’s Got Talent, but the Summer Olympics, of course.  My daughter asked me which event was my favorite, and I honestly answered, all of it. I can’t get enough of the competition.

According to Wikipedia, when the Olympics were first contested in Ancient Greece, one of the main events was the Pentathlon. The Pentathlon was five events contested over one day, starting with the long jump, javelin throw, discus throw, the stadion (a short foot race) and wrestling. Yes, wrestling!

That’s one heck of a day!

The Pentathlon of CRE

Just like the Ancient Olympic Pentathlon, a winning day in commercial real estate takes strength, endurance and agility. So what 5 events would make up a strong day in commercial real estate? The five events you should compete in for a highly productive CRE day are:

Time Management

If you are going to end the day as a winner, you better plan it out properly. You best allocate your three greatest resources: time, people and money.

Prospecting

Maybe the hardest event for many competitors, prospecting is something you need to do every day.

Personal Marketing

People need to know who you are if you are going to win at the prospecting game, engaging in a personal branding campaign is essential.

Presentations

It’s show time. You need to differentiate yourself if you want to find yourself standing on the top of the medal podium.

Team Building

No winning competitor can do it on their own. You need to leverage the talents of others every day if you want to successfully compete.
